Business sample 1 - Crisp white background, single page layout for professional

This web page example sets the standard for good web design.

At first glance it appears to be very simple, and that's exactly how it has been designed to look.  A professional web site should be crisp and clear and should convey a strong message about the organization or individual that it portrays.

Navigation has to be simple and easy to use.  In this example, navigation is on the left of the page where it is easy to locate and easy to use.

The body of the text follows a logical path from the overview, specialization, what the company offers,  through to ways to contact the person or organization.

Clients often want their sites to stand out from the crowd and to reflect their personalities or their corporate image.

A simple and effective way to achieve that result is to use a background color.

Background colors can be soft to add a touch of color or can be dominant and add a strong presence.

Strong, cool green background adds class and color.

Sample 3

Personal Services company - Bold dividers between sections

Another way to add contrast and break up a web page is to add horizontal dividers.

This example has cool teal dividing lines to complement the font and the corporate colors of this fictional client.  The featured layout is ideal for a retail store or personal services provider.

An interesting technique is to add a textured background.  These two examples use textures from the more than 2,000 textures in the EMD-IS Design Catalog.

You can combine any of the design elements seen here as well as hundreds more.  The key is to choose images and colors that work together and that project the image of yourself or your company that you really want others to see.
